W3C Introduction

The W3C, an organization established in 1994, aims to unleash the full potential of the web world by promoting the development of universal protocols and ensuring their universality.

What is the W3C?

  • The W3C refers to the World Wide Web Consortium (World Wide Web Consortium)
  • The W3C was established inOctober 1994
  • The W3C is established by Tim Berners-Lee Create
  • The W3C is aMember organizations
  • The work of the W3C isStandardization of the web
  • The W3C creates and maintains WWW standards
  • W3C standards are known as W3C Recommendations

How was the W3C created?

The World Wide Web (WWW) was developed as a project of the European Organization for Nuclear Research, where Tim Berners-Lee developed the prototype of the World Wide Web.

Tim Berners-Lee - the inventor of the World Wide Web - is currently the director of the World Wide Web Foundation.

The W3C was created in 1994 with the purpose of completing collaborative work between the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), and with support from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) of the United States and the European Commission.

Standardization of the web

The W3C is committed to enabling all users to make use of the web (regardless of their cultural, educational background, ability, financial status, and physical disabilities).

The W3C also collaborates with other standardization organizations, such as the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), the Wireless Application Protocol (WAP), and the Unicode Consortium.

The W3C is operated jointly by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (MIT CSAIL), the European Research Consortium for Informatics and Mathematics (ERCIM) based in France, and Keio University in Japan, and has branch offices worldwide.

W3C 会员

W3C Members

Because the Web is so important (regardless of its scope of influence or investment), it should not be controlled by any single organization, so W3C plays the role of a member organization:

  • Some well-known members include:
  • IBM
  • Microsoft
  • America Online
  • Apple
  • Adobe
  • Macromedia

Sun MicrosystemsW3C Members

Includes: software developers, content providers, enterprise users, communication companies, research institutions, research laboratories, standardization groups, and governments.

W3C Recommendations

Each W3C recommendation is developed through working groups consisting of members and invited experts. The funding for the working groups comes from companies and other organizations, and they will create a working draft, followed by a proposed recommendation. Generally, in order to obtain formal approval, recommendations are submitted to W3C members and chairs.

In the next section, we will explain the approval process of the specifications for you.
