Netscape's problems

Netscape's 4.x series browsers have poor support for CSS and do not support XML.

After 4.0, Netscape spent nearly three and a half years developing its next-generation browser. This delay significantly reduced the possibility of Netscape monopolizing the browser market.Further reading.
