W3C Soap Activiteit
Web Services hebben te maken met communicatie tussen toepassingen.
SOAP is een communicatieprotocol tussen Web Services gebaseerd op XML.
SOAP Handleiding
SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) is een platformonafhankelijk en taalonafhankelijk lichtgewicht communicatieprotocol dat programma's in staat stelt om via standaard Internet HTTP te communiceren.

SOAP 1.1
In mei 2000 werd SOAP 1.1 voorgesteld aan W3C (door ontwikkelaars: IBM, Lotus, Microsoft en Userland) als een protocol voor het uitwisselen van informatie in een gedistribueerde omgeving.
Het W3C SOAP 1.1-document is enkel een discussieverslag (NOTE). De publicatie van dit verslag betekent niet dat W3C het op enige wijze erkent.
SOAP 1.2
De XML Protocol Working Group van W3C werkt momenteel aan SOAP 1.2
Het eerste werkingsconcept werd op 17 december 2001 gepubliceerd.
SOAP 1.2 werd op 24 juni 2003 als W3C Aanbevolen Specificatie gepubliceerd.
