XML DOM localName Property

Definition and Usage

localName This property returns the local name (element name) of the selected element.

If the selected node is not an element or attribute, this property returns NULL.

elementNode.localName

The following code loads "books.xml" into xmlDoc and retrieves the local name from the first <book> element:

var xhttp = new XMLHttpRequest();
xhttp.onreadystatechange = function() {
   if (this.readyState == 4 && this.status == 200) {
       myFunction(this);
