Definition and usage

The extension element extends the elements of simpleType or complexType.

Syntax

Attribute Description
id Optional. Specifies the unique ID of the element.
base Required. Specifies the name of the built-in data type, simpleType, or complexType element.
xml:lang Optional. Specifies the language used in the content.

(The symbol declaration is within the extension element, which can appear zero or once, and the * symbol indicates that the element can appear zero or more times.)

Example 1

The following example extends an existing simpleType by adding an attribute:

The following example extends an existing complexType element by adding three elements:
