Shanghai, abbreviated as Hu, also known as Shen, is a direct-controlled municipality of the People's Republic of China, the economic, financial, trade, and shipping center of China, a world-famous port city, and the second most populous city in China.
Shanghai is located in the middle of the eastwardly curved coastline of China, the most eastern part of the Yangtze River Delta, facing the East China Sea to the east, bordering the Hangzhou Bay to the south, connected with Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces to the west, and the Chongming Island at the northern end is situated in the mouth of the Yangtze River, together with multiple cities in the surrounding Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Anhui provinces, forming the world-class urban agglomeration of the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration, which is an important part of it.
